Hm, the child skin by definition loads up the parent skin too. If it's set up correctly you should see the regular sized skin on a large screen even when the mobile skin is activated.

Try resizing the width of your browser window and see if it shifts into mobile view? If it does you're set.

I checked and unchecked a bunch of things, and I'm not quite sure what fixed it, but it seems to be working now! When I added a parent the site made a blank box for a second parent - maybe I had to delete that before it would work properly?
