I have a question about skins. I wanted to know if there was a way to add a footer to all of your work? For example, I'd like to put a disclaimer in there (I don't own this, don't make profit, blah blah) in the footer vs typing it out every time I submit work. I'd also like a side column where I could post links like 'hey check out this comm for this pairing.' Since I know nothing of css, I was trying to use some css generators that I found online. The problem is, they make the layout but I have no idea where to add where I want the text.

You'd need to create a new skin, choose the "work skin" option rather than the "site skin" option, and use the "content" tag in CSS. I don't think it would get you all you want for the side column, but it should in theory work for the footer. Something along the lines of the following should do the trick, but I can't get it to work for myself at the moment. I know some improvements to this functionality are planned for the next release, but I'm not sure if it'll fix everything you need.

Hi! :-) I'm afraid what you want is not possible with skins, as those are basically about changing colors, fonts etc. and rearranging some basic structure (e.g. navigation at the top or on the side) - you can't actually add content through a skin.

Both the things you mention sound like something that could go into the Notes field, either before or after the work. If you're using Firefox, there's an add-on you can use for storing snippets of text - you can put your standard disclaimer there and insert it into the Notes field with just two clicks whenever you post a work. Let me know and I'll find it for you.

There *might* be a possibility to have something like a sidebar column for your works, but I would have to do some more research for this. And it might make your code a bit messy, if you put it right with your fic. But again, I would have to poke around a bit more.

The way CSS usually generators work is they give you a bit of HTML (your basic framework, e.g. a header, main content area, footer and so on) and the corresponding CSS for putting everything in the right position and prettying it up and such. With the AO3 *site* skins, the HTML framework is already in place, and you can only use CSS to style what's there. With *work* skins, you can include HTML in your fic and style it with CSS, but again, adding actual content is not supported. Please let me know if you'd like to know more about how to use skins and I'll bundle up some pointers. :-)

Whups, I had forgotten that the CSS content thing was allowed now, sorry! You might get this to work, just keep in mind that as soon as someone clicks the "Hide Creator's Style" button at the top right of a work, or has set their preference to never show custom CSS, that text will be invisible to them, as all custom CSS will be stripped from the work and only the HTML will remain.
